Sichuan-based Tzu Chi volunteers headed to the disaster site on June 26 to distribute relief supplies. Due to the language barrier, the volunteers sought the assistance of the local village committee to conduct a roll call to mark the commencement of the distribution session. The locals waited in line to collect the provisions, which included two thermal blankets and a supply kit containing soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, towels and other toiletries for every household. Several of the locals expressed their gratitude to the volunteers despite their limited proficiency in Mandarin. China 2020.06.26 Material Relief for Mudslide Disaster Victims On July 4 and 5, 2020, the annual Tzu Chi Four- in-One Cadre Camp was held online for the first time due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The inaugural batch of participants, comprising 5,738 volunteers from 22 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, took part in the sessions which were broadcasted live from the Jing Si Abode in Hualien, Taiwan. The event organizers had appointed camp guides to care for the participants and guide them in sharing their views, besides bridging communication between the organizers and the participants, as was the custom in previous years. The camp guides were responsible for conducting attendance checks online, maintaining decorum, reminding the participants of their course schedule and informing them of the course outline. As part of the two-day course, the participants were trained in a practical understanding of the workings of the “four-in-one” organizational structure.
