2021 • 10 40 Raising Hope through an Interfaith Charity Concert Early May 2021, more than 70 Covid-19 cases were detected at Machap Baru, Malacca. Some patients were sent to a makeshift hospital in Serdang, Selangor, while others observed self-isolation. In August, concerned Tzu Chi volunteers visited and delivered food supplies to Machap Baru old folks’ home, an institution they have provided long-term care since 1992. They also visited each of the Tzu Chi cash relief aid beneficiary families and widely circulated Tzu Chi’s careline number so that the villagers knew they were not alone during this challenging time. Some 30 local and overseas artistes lent their voices at the concert, and managed to raise over RM60,000 in a brief four hours. Local artiste Lee Shu Fun conveyed her blessings through her singing and assured the audience: “No matter what the future is, we will be fine.” All funds raised were donated to the Malaysian Solidarity Covid-19 Fund, to procure medical equipment and supplies for local hospitals and provide aid to families struggling to cope with the impact of the pandemic.
