Additionally, their visas expired and flights to Vietnam had been cancelled. Out of desperation, they sought help from the Vietnam Embassy, which referred them to the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Japan for assistance. The chairman of the association, Dharma Master Xin Zhi, found temporary shelter, preventing them from becoming homeless. These 150 trainees, including a pregnant lady, were housed in four shelters while awaiting return to Vietnam. As there were only two flights to Vietnam in a month, and 17 seats available on each flight, they had to patiently await their turn. Although these trainees had a roof over their heads, the weather was getting colder towards November. They lacked some daily supplies and materials to keep themselves warm. After assessing their situation, Tzu Chi volunteer Shi Shun He, roped in his friend, Xie Wei Cheng and wife, to provide cooking oil, seasonings, and daily necessities such as tooth brushes, toothpastes and towels, easing the trainees’ stress. They have since contributed thrice. In addition, Shi Shun He also liaised with Tzu Chi Japan to deliver 80 eco-blankets. Although their impending return to Vietnam may not be soon, the trainees are grateful for the warmth through the kindness displayed by volunteers despite the chilly weather.
