The world of Tzu Chi September 2020 (Vol.126)

2020 • 09 40 lobal News As a result of Covid-19 pandemic, many schools have switched to online learning, but not all students are able to do this successfully. In Quilicura, Chile, a group of children with special needs from Modaidad Especia were lagging behind in their studies as their families could not afford to buy computers. Keni, who manages the group, looked everywhere for assistance, and finally found Tzu Chi. As all the shops in Chile were closed, volunteers immediately contacted a computer expert, Wu Chong Ming, who found 15 laptops and donated all of them. Besides the laptops, volunteers also prepared 15 packs of face masks to give to each student. Chile 2020.07.07 Special Needs Students Are Studying Again Before the Covid-19 outbreak, care recipients of Tzu Chi Indonesia used to pick up their supplies at a specified location every month. However, due to restrictions on mass gatherings and safe distancing as part of the pandemic prevention measures, distributions have been suspended. Yet, this did not stop Tzu Chi from providing aid to their care recipients. After much consideration, volunteers finally found the best solution to protect themselves and their care recipients, which is to send daily supplies to the care recipients’ homes by taxi. Although supplies are still delivered during the pandemic, volunteers cannot meet with the care recipients. As much as the latter wish to meet with them, they too, hope the pandemic will end soon, and that they can care for them in person once again.
