33 The Buddhist Tzu-Chi Free Clinics in Kuala Lumpur, Klang, and Malacca provide free medical services to refugees. For those requiring medical subsidies, Tzu Chi offers assistance upon assessment. Additionally, TIMA conducts medical outreach for stateless people in East Malaysia. As refugees are ineligible for public schools and often cannot afford private school fees, Tzu Chi and UNHCR jointly operate two Alternative Learning Centres (ALCs) in the Klang Valley to cater to their needs. In addition, Tzu Chi has set up three ALCs for stateless children in East Malaysia. These ALCs have offered about 6,000 enrolments for primary education. Embrace the World With Compassion, Without Exceptions Persisting against all odds At 13, Jaber fled from Myanmar to Malaysia. Two years later, he enrolled as a Year 1 student in the Tzu-Chi ALC. With hard work and guidance from his teachers, he successfully graduated and became an assistant at the Tzu-Chi Free Clinic in Kuala Lumpur, interpreting for Myanmarese and Rohingya patients. In 2023, he and his family were resettled in the U.S., marking a fresh start in their lives.
