O n December 8, 2024, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor hosted the Tzu Chi Scholarship Award Ceremony at KL Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall, recognising 183 students for their hard work and achievements. Scholarships were awarded in four categories: Academic Excellence, Outstanding Performance, Service & Filial Piety, and Perfect Attendance, supporting these students’ educational journeys for the coming year. To increase engagement, this year, volunteers designed a station game, where students worked in groups to explore exhibition panels and find answers to 16 questions. This interactive activity deepened their understanding of Tzu Chi while making learning fun. Several students also took the stage to share their journeys. Kevin Singh Vannice, a chemical engineering student and recipient of the Academic Excellence Award, spoke about his challenges. With a disabled mother and a father left paralysed by a stroke two years ago, he has had to cope with immense family and life pressures. Despite feeling overwhelmed at times, he firmly believes that education is the key to a better future and is grateful for the opportunity to continue his studies. “My parents’ resilience has taught me perseverance. This scholarship is a lifeline, reminding me that even in difficult times, kindness and generosity exist. I’m truly thankful to Tzu Chi for being a beacon of hope in my life, giving me the strength to pursue greater dreams,” he shared. Lau Foon Mui, a volunteer leader for Tzu Chi KL & Selangor’s Charity Mission, commended the students for their hard work and determination. She quoted Master Cheng Yen, saying, “Never underestimate a drop of rain or a tiny seed. With care and nurture, even the smallest seed can grow into a mighty tree.” May every effort these students make serve as a stepping stone towards their future success.
