09 TZU CHI 153 A ripple of love After receiving financial aid, many beneficiaries found ways to reciprocate. Some took home bamboo banks, eager to save spare change to help others in need. Others shared their gratitude on social media, encouraging more people to embrace vegetarianism and acts of kindness. Like ripples spreading across water, Tzu Chi’s Great Love continues to inspire hope and kindness in the wake of disaster. From suffering to empathy Fazdilah was trapped for four days, with no water or electricity and dwindling food supplies. When the waters receded, her home was left in ruins. Despite her hardships, she aspires to save what little she has in a bamboo bank to help others. “Having lived through this, I truly understand the pain and fear of those who suffer.” Amidst the suffering, affected residents developed a deeper sense of empathy for one another. Inspired to give For Henry, Tzu Chi’s aid was a beacon of hope. “Tzu Chi kept its promise. This relief fund means so much during these challenging times.” He was especially touched by the volunteers’ selfless spirit – a manifestation of humanitarian care and love in its purest form, transcending all boundaries. Inspired by their example, he hopes to one day pay it forward and help others in need. Protecting the planet Khairul was stunned upon receiving the relief fund. “I never expected such generosity,” he said, deeply moved by the compassion shown to him. Beyond gratitude, he was also inspired by Tzu Chi’s environmental mission. “We must cherish this planet, be more mindful of our impact, eat more vegetables, reduce pollution, and spread kindness.” A heartfelt gesture On February 27, a beneficiary arrived at the Tzu Chi Miri office with a bamboo bank. “This is all the loose change in my house,” he said. “Before, I would exchange it for paper notes to spend, but now, I want to donate it to help others.” Having endured disaster, he now understands the true meaning of giving and receiving.
