The world of Tzu Chi December 2023 (Vol.148)
2023 • 12 28 Taking steps and learning to walk are seemingly simple actions, but they can be challenging for patients dealing with conditions like strokes or spinal injuries. Over the long run, the associated treatment expenses also present a significant burden to patients from vulnerable families. Thus, early this year, Tzu-Chi Free Clinic in Malacca expanded its services to include physiotherapy, with physiotherapists stationed every Tuesday to offer free services to qualifying low-income patients. Besides the physical training, the physiotherapists and volunteers also pay attention to mental rehabilitation of patients by extending emotional support, encouragement, and companionship. From February to September, they have attended to over 200 patient-visits. “Bang!” The door swung open. Clad in a suit, a beast entered the auditorium, turning his head to scan the audience. The air froze, cautious not to disturb the formidable beast. The opening scene of the “Beauty and the Beast” musical performance, held at Tzu Chi International School Kuala Lumpur (TCISKL) on November 3 and 4, 2023 mesmerised the audience, whisking them away into an enchanting world. The performers, comprised of secondary school students, skilfully presented the story through a combination of drama and dance, complemented by instrumental music and singing. On and off the stage, the students showcased confidence, dedication, and creativity, fostering not only individual skills but also a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie through their collaborative efforts.
