TZU CHI 148 19 she has done that improved her luck. “I follow Master Cheng Yen’s guidance. Master said, ‘one firefly cannot light up the house, but 100 or 200 fireflies can.’ Back then, I was the only one engaging in recycling in the village. Now, everyone recycles.” Zubaira admires how Master Cheng Yen, as a female, leads the world to do charity work. She holds great respect for the Master and puts her teachings into practice. Teck Ngie is deeply gratified by the simple giving heart of the stateless community. Reflecting on their journeys, he shared, “It has been a while since we first interacted. As they warmed up to us, a sense of trust blossomed, awakening the innate love and kindness within them. Buddha said, ‘all sentient beings are equal, and everyone possesses Buddha-nature.’ In the community, I see it.” The light of compassion can illuminate dark corners and awaken kind thoughts deep in the hearts of all living beings. The human heart is so big that it cannot be filled with worldly treasures, only light. Once the light in one has been lit, one can transform the surroundings, lighting up even the darkest corners!
