The world of Tzu Chi September 2023 (Vol.147)
TZU CHI 147 29 On July 22, 2023, the Tzu Chi International Youth Association (TIYA) and Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association in Malacca jointly hosted their first ever “Listen to the Green” concert, which aimed to awaken young people to care for the Earth and invest in a sustainable future. The event saw about 60 people gathering at the YOUNG Tzu Chi Youth Activity Centre, watching video clips that brought reflection about the connection between humanity and the planet, besides immersing in beautiful songs and music. The concert also featured a sharing session by Sua Li Qiu, co- founder of a zero-waste, packaging-free store, who shared her journey towards environmental sustainability. It is hoped that the resonance sparked by the music will catalyse sustained efforts to safeguard the Earth. Following the blood test event on June 5, 2023, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor’s charity and medical teams provided a one-stop health screening service for 96 care recipients on June 11 at the KL Tzu- Chi Jing Si Hall. The services ranged from measuring body height, weight, and blood pressure, to assessing leg strength and promoting breast health, followed by consultations by doctors and nutritionists based on the screening reports. The ambience was relaxed, and Dr. Tan Min Hui shared, “One of the care recipients is my patient at the hospital. She usually hesitates to ask questions, but here, we have a more open exchange.” Hopefully, through the health screenings and consultations, the care recipients would break out from the cycle of poverty and illness.
