Taking initiative further, they repaired a faulty kitchen faucet and arranged for an electrician to fix wiring and lights. While achieving a spotless home in a single day was not possible, the living room became noticeably more spacious. Stella herself acknowledged the positive change, noting, “Harbouring resentment is truly painful, especially when faced with piles of clutter that evoke unpleasant memories. I had been having trouble sleeping at night, but now, without the clutter, I feel much more at ease.” An avid reader, Stella recalled some inspirational quotes and had a moment of realisation that only a heart free from hatred can experience true peace and tranquillity. With a smile, she expressed her gratitude to the volunteers for not only tidying her physical space, but also helping to dispel the resentment in her heart. As her grudges diminished, she believed she could finally rest soundly at night. She shared, “I have found a temporary job as a tour guide. I want to leave the past behind, live the life I desire, and live it well.” As Stella and the volunteers captured the significant moment in a photograph, she joyfully mentioned that the picture would serve as a reminder to maintain purity and clarity in her life and her mind, never allowing them to become cluttered or clouded again. She also expressed her intention to volunteer at the Tzu Chi recycling centre once her job has stabilised. Henceforth, she wanted to live a life free of regrets. The cluttered living room, with only a narrow pathway for a single person to walk through, transformed into a spacious area after the cleaning activity.
