Yet, reality sometimes takes unexpected turns. Stella Lee, 67, was caught in a cluttered living space that mirrored the chaos within her heart. While decluttering her home, she discovered a newfound sense of liberty and motivation to live her life better, moving forward. O n the morning of June 4, 2023, a sudden downpour drenched the surroundings. However, to the relief of the 53 volunteers arriving at the apartment where care recipient Stella Lee resides, the rain gradually subsided, and the gloomy sky gave way to warm rays of sunlight. Upon seeing volunteer Hiew Ying Hui, the deputy coordinator of the cleaning effort, Stella expressed, “I feel guilty about the clutter in my home and the items blocking the staircase, inconveniencing my neighbours. Thankfully, all of you Tzu Chi volunteers are here today to assist me…” Ying Hui then explained the cleaning plan and reassured Stella that they would show her all the items that they were going to dispose of, before taking them downstairs. The recyclables would be sent to the recycling centre for sorting, and any valuable items found, such as money, documents, and jewellery, would be returned to her. A cluttered living space Seated by the side of her bed, Stella opened up to Ying Hui, sharing her story. “In my younger years, I used to travel the world, feeling like the whole world was at my fingertips. But now, after several decades have passed, what have I truly gained? Just a house filled with bags and bags of things… In the end, I am still all alone.” As it turned out, ouching Life Story
