TZU CHI 147 13 sports house’s cheerleading squad secured them first place in the competition. Fostering synergy and building trust In her opening remarks, Principal Khoo Li Lin said, “Sports teach us life values. It instils in us discipline, teamwork, resilience, and persistence. Today is the day that you showcase your skills, your talents, and your showmanship.” She hoped that the students would unite through sports and create memorable experiences regardless of the competition’s outcomes. Teacher Chuah Yu Tian, took on the responsibility of organising the annual sports meet just 15 days after becoming the Physical Education subject lead. Her greatest driving force came from the students’ anticipation. She explained that students learn in classrooms the entire year; sports week and sports day are the only times they could set aside their books and wholeheartedly engage in sports and related activities. She shared, “During the sports week, students embraced various challenges, including engaging in games that were not their strong suits. They bravely participated and actively learned, even developing an unexpected interest in these activities.” The students’ creative designs, particularly the posters and photo booths, pleasantly surprised her.
