The world of Tzu Chi September 2023 (Vol.147)

11 TZU CHI 147 when I felt most vulnerable did I realise that the most important thing is to cherish and live in the present moment.” Chin Theong revealed that he would have given up in despair and not be able to come to terms with the loss of vision in one eye without Tzu Chi, the Dharma, and the caring support of fellow volunteers. By early June, Bee Hua had returned from India. She tended to Chin Theong, sharing Master’s teachings and reading to him Master’s commentaries on the Sutra of Infinite Meanings every night, hoping that the Dharma will strengthen his faith in facing the future. As Chin Theong adopted a more positive outlook, he realised the significance of making the most of the present and sowing more blessings. Chin Theong was grateful for his certification as a Tzu Chi commissioner by the Master. He shared, “Master advised me to accept karma as it comes and face it with right understanding and right mindfulness. Master emphasised the necessity of spiritual practice to liberate ourselves from afflictions and ignorance. Furthermore, Master assured me that I could ‘see’ through my ears and ‘listen’ withmy heart. Regardless ofmy circumstances, I could use my heart to transform them.” Master’s words greatly enlightened Chin Theong, strengthening his resolve to walk the Bodhisattva Path. He pledged to take the Buddha’s compassion and Master’s missions as his own, as he walks the Tzu Chi path diligently and steadfastly. Lok Bee Hua reads Master Cheng Yen’s commentaries on the Sutra of Infinite Meanings to Khoo Chin Theong daily, hoping that the Dharma will guide him through this trial.
