The world of Tzu Chi Apr-Jun 2023 (Vol.146)

TZU CHI 146 27 Tzu Chi Malacca established the “Tzu Chi Youth Activity Centre” at the K7 Community Mall with the aim of nurturing a new generation of young people who will inspire their peers and other youth to be socially aware and actively contribute to charitable causes. On March 11, 2023, a two-day event featuring the screening of a movie and five talks was launched. The event also included a plant-based market, handicraft market, music performances, and trial lessons for pastel Nagomi art and tea art. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals were also highlighted during the event. With every increase in kindness, we can contribute to a more stable society, and move closer to the goal of uniting people through the transformative power of kindness and love. A fire broke out at Kampung Cenderamata, a squatter settlement in Sandakan, Sabah, on the night of March 6, 2023, leaving 94 families homeless. The following day, Tzu Chi volunteers discussed relief efforts and conducted an on-site assessment on the 8th. On March 13, in the presence of the village head, a parliamentary liaison officer, the chairman of the Sabah Muslim Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from various organisations, the volunteers distributed aid at the multipurpose hall of PPR Batu Sapi. They were moved by Tzu Chi’s contributions as a Chinese Buddhist organisation that transcends race, religion, and nationality. Village head Saimah bin Omar and the affected residents expressed their gratitude for Tzu Chi’s assistance, which would alleviate their burdens during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration.
