The world of Tzu Chi March 2023 (Vol.145)
TZU CHI 145 29 Following the first performance of The Wondrous Lotus Sutra Musical Adaptation at KL Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall last July, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor continued its efforts to deepen participants’ understanding of the sutra through book study sessions and sutra adaptation practices. On December 9, 2022, the night before the official performance, a live broadcast of the sutra adaptation was aired from Kaohsiung Arena, Taiwan, for the volunteers and the public. The following two days, Tzu Chi volunteers from five continents met virtually at scheduled times, gathering everyone’s kindness to perform the sutra adaptation simultaneously. Over three days, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor, Pahang and East Malaysia had more than 6,000 participants for the sutra adaptation. The Malaysian Medical Welfare Fund, a subsidiary of Malaysian Association of Medical Social Officers, presented a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative plaque to Tzu Chi at the 2022 Appreciation Ceremony to thank Tzu Chi for accepting hospital referrals and helping struggling patients receive proper treatment. Intan Nurhaila, Chairman of the organising committee, said, “This is my 24th year as a social worker. In the past, whenever I needed to seek support for supplies and medical expenses, Tzu Chi was always the first I contacted. We truly appreciate the contribution of Tzu Chi.” Tzu Chi stands by the principle of respecting lives and providing patient-centred care so that patients receive proper treatment and eventually recover healthily.
