The world of Tzu Chi Nov-Dec 2022 (Vol.144)

TZU CHI 144 31 The numerical iteration of October 13, “1013” is a homophone of the phrase 一 人一善 (one person, one good deed) when read in Mandarin. To coincide with this special day, Tzu Chi Malacca held the “Veggie Kitchen” vegetarian promotion campaign on its premises from October 10 to 28. Different plant-based dishes were served from Monday to Friday, for members of the public to taste healthy and delicious vegetarian meals, before further adopting sustainable vegetarianism as a way to be kind to the environment and animals. Moreover, tableware was available for rent in place of disposable tableware, for a more sustainable world. A total of 161 teachers, refugee students and parents from Tzu-Chi Alternative Learning Centres in Selayang and Ampang made a trip to the KL Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall for their extracurricular activities. A friendly competition and a green fashion show were organized for the students to unleash their creativity and apply their environmental knowledge and the Jing Si aphorisms they had learned. Student Faridah said, “We have two dresses. One is to represent pollution and another is before pollution happened. We want to tell everyone that we need to care for the environment, otherwise, we will not be able to live longer (on Earth) than we do now.” Malacca I 10–28.10.2022 KL & Selangor I 15.10.2022 Vegetarianism – Kindness in Daily Living Humanistic Education Comes Alive Report and photo by Julie Yen Yu Chu By Siah Siew Chew & Tang Choon Chaw Photo by Ngiao Swee Ping
