2022 • 10 30 ocal News On September 10, the newly established Tzu-Chi Alternative Learning Centre in Tawau welcomed over 100 new students to collect their school uniforms. Both parents and children were beaming with joy for the precious education opportunity. Chairman of KampungTitingan’sVillageDevelopment and Security Committee, Mohd Yusree, remarked that the children who have received education earlier, have improved in literacy and become more sensible. A medical outreach was also held at the learning centre the following day, to provide free medical services to the stateless villagers. Administrative staff Leong Chin Wah hoped that through these, the villagers could learn more about Tzu Chi and develop kindness within themselves. A connection between Tzu Chi and Caritas Malaysia was formed in 2021, thanks to the Malaysia Solidarity Covid-19 Fund. On July 30, the Catholic Church invited a group of 50 members, comprised of bishops, nuns and committee members from other states, to visit KL Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall and the recycling-cum-education centre in Jinjang. Darren Junior from Miri, Sarawak, expressed that the contents shared on environmental protection was thought-provoking: “We are only temporarily living on Earth. We have the responsibility toprotect Earth. Everyone should lead by example to influence the greater public to contribute, to leave the next generation a beautiful Earth.” He hoped to bring the knowledge he had learnt about environmental protection home to the community.
