Report and photos by Teo Geok Huay Translated by Yi-Qin In support of Tzu Chi Kluang’s “100 Vegetarian Meals” campaign, all teachers and students of SJK(T) Ladang Elaeis in Kluang, Johor, had successfully completed 100 vegetarian meals each within two months. Starting from the dining table, they are doing their part to protect lives and the environment. T he “100 Vegetarian Meals” campaign launched by Tzu Chi Kluang attracted 500 participants from among the volunteers, monthly donors, care recipients and members of the public. Nearly half of the participants successfully completed 100 vegetarian meals within two months and were presented with a souvenir and certificate of participation. SJK(T) Ladang Elaeis, an 81-year-old school located about 25 minutes’ drive away through the dirt road from Taman Makmur, supported the campaign too. The remote suburb school became a beneficiary school of Tzu Chi Study & Awards Scheme in 2016, and the assistance has been ongoing until today. At present, there are only 23 Indian students in Primary 1 to 6, majority of whom come from low-income households. During the pandemic, the teachers joined effort with Teacher Eswaran (first from left) led the teachers and students of SJK(T) Ladang Elaeis to support the “100 Vegetarian Meals” campaign.
