TZU CHI 142 17 repellent sprays for them. Soek Meng was gratified to see her brother making progress. She shared that if it had been in the past, her brother would have been plagued with stage fright to talk in front of so many people. He has also started to care about how others feel and think. She choked as she said, “I am touched by his positive change!” Their mother had passed away when Ka Seng, the youngest in the family, was 17 years old. Since then, Soek Meng has assumed the motherly role. When Ka Seng was younger, he had some misunderstandings with his family. Since he became ill and came in contact with the Dharma, he has reflected on his past mistakes and promised his sister, “Give me some time, I will change!” Soek Meng was deeply moved to see her brother’s determination to learn while enduring his physical pain. “I always told him how much we love him. The family has let go of past misunderstandings, and will give him strength and support him as he battles the illness. He now understands that it is his blessing to participate in the musical adaptation, and he has learned to shift his perspectives. The pain of chemotherapy befell him because of his retribution, so he could face it calmly.” Having realized the impermanence of life through his illness, Ka Seng has become more positive as he strives for the opportunity to learn and gradually regain all the time he had lost. On May 21, Wo Ka Seng (middle) attended the first outdoor book study session. Everyone was filled with spiritual joy.
