The world of Tzu Chi May-June 2022 (Vol.141)

47 TZU CHI 141 * Extracted from the book “Infinite Teachings, Infinite Meanings”. I think it is really difficult to be tolerant! Those who are overly “clever” will often be calculating and have a mindset of gain and loss. Therefore, they are unable to tolerate many things. What if the gains and losses are not for ourselves? Even if you say it is not for yourself, a large portion of your thinking is still vested in your own interest. For example, people always blame others by saying, “I have already tolerated so much from you. Why can’t you back down a little bit?” If that is not for your sake, then for whose sake is it? How do we purify people’s minds? To purify people’s minds, the most important thing is to go among them to serve them. People dealing with disease, poverty, or injuries due to accidents have already suffered a lot. We should take good care of their spiritual health and accompany them through this rough stage of their lives. For those who are approaching the end of their lives, we should help them open their minds to peacefully accept that the end is drawing near. This is what we should strive for. By giving joyfully, we demonstrate that those who give love to others are the happiest people and, in doing so, help people change their mindsets. Actually, there are many caring people in our community. If we can unite our loving hearts, we can give rise to great strength. Therefore, if it is the right thing to do, just do it. You also need to mobilize others to devote themselves; only then can people’s minds be truly purified.
