The world of Tzu Chi May-June 2022 (Vol.141)
TZU CHI 141 33 Da Ai kindergarten in Malacca had specially organized an Eid al-Fitr celebration for the students to learn about the festival, thus developing understanding and respect towards different cultures. Dressed in Malay traditional costumes, the teachers and students sat on straw mats and enjoyed their nasi lemak just like the Malays do, and had Malay kuih for tea break. The children also had fun playing congkak , gasing (top spinning), selambut and other traditional games. Despite the extra efforts needed besides sharing knowledge verbally, the teachers were happy being able to provide a memorable experience for the students and instil the value of mutual respect in them. After searching for ten years, the volunteers finally had their wish fulfilled with the set-up of a Tzu Chi recycling centre at the parking space of Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Resort. Tan Sri Vincent Tan, a Tzu Chi volunteer, has provided the space to help reduce global warming through recycling. He said humbly, “Providing a space for the station is nothing much. The real heroes are the Tzu Chi volunteers who are giving their all to make this happen and maintain it. I salute and thank all of them.” A public member, Wong Chin Hong, concurred with the initiative. He said, “We humans have created too much rubbish. If we are not environmentally conscious, the Earth will, sooner or later, be covered with rubbish.” Malacca I 03.05.2022 KL & Selangor I 01.05.2022 Experience and Learn to Respect Different Culture A New Recycling Centre in Bukit Jalil By Ng Sock Cheng Photo by Low Kin Fook By Loo Yee Mei Photo by Yong Kar Chew
