The ravaging waves may stir, sift and shake us all but then, the embracing waves of love keep us anchored on solid ground. In the most unfathomable circumstances, we see ordinary men and women rising beyond self to save not just the familiar, but also the unfamiliar. It is that magnitude of compassion and unity that held us all together in that tapestry of love. When several areas in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were hit by floods last December, Tzu Chi took to the ground, swiftly responding by delivering hot meals and basic necessities, and then mobilizing volunteers to help clean up two of the worst-hit areas—Taman Sri Muda and Taman Sri Nanding—after the floods had receded. This was followed by home visits and assessments, and thereafter, the provision of cash relief. The odds were there and the challenges mounting. Yet, volunteers persevered and pressed on, making a real difference to real lives in times of real need.
