The world of Tzu Chi Jan-Feb 2022 (Vol.139)
2022 • 02 44 Used Computers to Enable Learning In October 2021, Malaysia rolled out Covid-19 booster shots to enhance protection against the virus. Tzu Chi KL & Selangor once again set up a vaccination centre at the KL Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall and mobilized medical personnel and volunteers from the Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) to administer booster shots to the public on weekends, commencing December 4. One of the volunteers, Noor Bahidah, was glad for the opportunity to contribute together with an organization of a different faith. The vaccination centre which drew to a close on January 16, 2022, had put in 1,200 volunteer-shifts and successfully administered 8,892 booster doses. In early November 2021, the volunteer team presented new tablets and used laptop and desktop computers donated by some kind souls to the Salvatorian Home and Fatima Home, which house children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Education gives hope and can transform lives. Hopefully with sufficient devices and equipment now, the children no longer have to share a computer for their online classes and will be able to catch up with their studies.
