Tzu Chi volunteers launched emergency relief, providing timely assistance. They helped in whatever ways they could—delivering hot meals, assisting the victims to shelter, and comforting the distraught. The Christmas holidays were spent cleaning up the ravaged homes of victims. There were also volunteers from Penang, Malacca, Johor and other states. They all shared that common thread of compassion, reaching out to the desperate, vulnerable and needy. Master Cheng Yen says, “Everyone has a spiritual light in his heart. When we come together, the light could brighten the darkest corner in the world. Let us encourage each other and diligently create blessings because blessings can mitigate disasters.
