The world of Tzu Chi Nov-Dec 2021 (Vol.138)
O n September 21, Malaysia Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, announced that we have achieved herd immunity officially, with 80 per cent of the adult population vaccinated. On October 10, the adult vaccinated population reached 90 per cent, and inter-state travel was allowed the day after. With that, the Government gradually relaxed the pandemic SOP and many people started to return to work, and resumed their normal lives. Tzu Chi Careline, which was set up on June 8, also ended its services officially on October 31. Nonetheless, charity relief work continues for those who need assistance. The pandemic has brought us closer as a country. People, regardless of race, religion, status or wealth, came together to reach out to those most vulnerable. Through our acts of compassion and care, however small it may be, we have reaffirmed the essence of humanity. Bridging the boundaries at a time of social distancing has united us as one. Tzu Chi Careline, run by volunteers and staff who diligently made and answered thousands of calls, has ignited hope for many families, showing them the first rays of light after a dark storm. It signals a return to sincerity, kindness and empathy where no one is judged, and where no one is left behind. Indeed, the circle of compassion must carry on, and never be broken.
