Caring for society As schools were suspended at the height of the pandemic, student learning has been greatly affected over the past one and a half years. While the older students could understand the situation and adapt to online learning, the pre-schoolers and some younger primary school students were puzzled. “Why can’t we return to school? I dislike Covid-19!” They asked innocently. To help the students understand the present circumstances, TCISKL teachers shared with them about the pandemic during online classes and school assemblies. At one of the online assemblies, the students were showed a video footage of Tzu Chi volunteers providing relief aid and care such as distributing food supplies to needy families and delivering medical equipment and supplies to hospitals. This indirectly instilled in them the spirit of Great Love and selfless giving. In May this year, Malaysia’s healthcare system was further stretched by the escalating Covid-19 cases. Many frontline medical personnel were exhausted from working around the clock to save lives. This prompted Lim Siew Li, the Principal of TCISKL, to ponder what the school, teachers and students, could do for these frontliners. “I was aware that Tzu Chi had launched the Malaysia Solidarity Covid-19 Fund 1 to support local hospitals through the provision of critically- needed medical equipment and supplies.
