TZU CHI 136 33 Upon learning that some low-income families were unable to go out to work during the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) period and faced with food shortage, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor responded swiftly by mobilizing its volunteers to purchase and pack food supplies within two days, for distribution by the KL Social Welfare Department. I n light of the high number of Covid-19 cases in KL and Selangor, the Government imposed EMCO on 14 localities from July 3 to 16, 2021, to break the transmission chains. Due to the movement restrictions, those who are in non-essential sectors are not allowed to leave their homes for work. Hence, some families that rely on daily wage for subsistence were at risk of having no food. In the evening of July 4, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor learnt that residents in eight low- cost flat areas under EMCO, namely Sri Semarak PPR, Kampung Baru Air Panas PPR, Kampung Padang Balang, Kampung Puah, Taman Koperasi Polis (Phase 1), Wangsa Maju On July 5, about 50 volunteers who have received at least their first dose of Covid-19 vaccines rushed to prepare and pack food supplies to be distributed to needy families.
