The world of Tzu Chi Augusts 2021 (Vol.136)
2021 • 08 22 eature Bringing wholefood diet to the world As the host of the transformational health challenge, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor aims to provide spiritual encouragement and health education to its participants and the public. By working on the big diet shift, participants gain insights into what good food is and how to prepare good food. They also learn to practise “self-reliance” which helps them maintain the diet. The 21-day challenge is gaining momentum, and has been brought to countries like Taiwan, China, Singapore, the United States, Canada, and Indonesia. The phenomenal results arising from the challenge have sparked interest in scientific research among local researchers. The Sarawak Department of Health and TIMA KL & Selangor are also exploring opportunities to promote the meatless diet to the patients, and to more institutions and units respectively. “Hopefully, more people will understand that a healthy plant-based diet can improve health, and that this diet can be extended to all over Malaysia, and even around the world. It can bring about a big change in the way we eat,” said Dr. Chan. More than 500 blood test reports from participants of the “Healthier Me” 21-Day Challenge have shown that there is more to the WFPB diet. It empowers health, and most of all, it enriches life. * The R-value is the number of people that one infected person will infect, on average. An R-value above one indicates a rising spread of the virus. Sign up for the “Healthier Me” 21-Day Challenge now!
