TZU CHI 132 23 Kong Chern Juin, a Year 7 student, loves reading Jing Si Aphorisms since he was a child. Inspired by a phrase from Jing Si Aphorisms , “Include me when doing good deeds, exclude me when doing evil,” he has been saving in his bamboo bank daily for donations. Now that he is immersed in the conducive TCISKL learning environment, Chern Juin is turning out to be a caring and considerate teenager. Being confined at home during MCO, Chern Juin could only follow news and watch helplessly how the frontline medical personnel working round the clock to attend to infected cases, and Tzu Chi volunteers busily making face shields to support the frontliners. He sought help from his parents and teachers in collating photos of Tzu Chi volunteers and medical personnel to produce a short film named, “Stringing Together the Beads of Love” in paying tribute to these heroes. He also encouraged everyone to observe a vegetarian diet to fight against the pandemic. In a short video, Chern Juin shared that observing vegetarianism is not only beneficial to health, it is also a way to protect Mother Earth. He demonstrated how to prepare a vegetarian dish in the video to convince the audience that it is not difficult to adopt a vegetarian diet. Chern Juin, who practices martial arts, added that “Actually, it is not hard to be a vegetarian. A vegetarian meal can be equally appealing and appetizing.
