The world of Tzu Chi February 2021(Vol.131)
2021 • 02 44 Watch video reports: ocal News Reported by Tzu Chi Documenting Team Translated by Rachel Ang I n December 2020, Tzu Chi Singapore donated 2,160 divan beds to Tzu Chi KL & Selangor in view of the unabated Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia. At the same time, it was anticipated that the Ministry of Health (MOH) would need a large number of bed frames and mattresses for the set up of the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) following the enforcement of mandatory Covid-19 screening for foreign workers on December 1. Thus, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor volunteers delivered these donated divan beds to 14 designated locations in 7 Malaysian states, including the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in Selangor, Permai Hospital Sports Complex in Johor, and Kuantan in Pahang. It took 36 shipments over 10 days to get this done. The PKRC set up at MAEPS had actually ceased its operation on July 15. However, it was reactivated following a resurgence of the coronavirus cases. Upon receiving the 120 divan beds, Dr. Md. Anuar binAbd. Samad, Director of MAEPS PKRC said, “The war against Covid-19 is not solely MOH’s responsibility. It is a collaboration between multi-agencies as well as cooperation from the community. So hopefully, we can fight this pandemic together successfully.” Besides delivery, Tzu Chi also mobilized 21 volunteers to assist in unloading the 300 divan beds sent to the Permai Hospital. Hopefully, these beds will help make the patients comfortable.
