The world of Tzu Chi January 2021 (Vol.130)

TZU CHI 130 59 feel lucky that you accepted me. Come Primary 4, you asked me on a visit to the doctor, “Why am I the only one in the class who needs to see the doctor?” I replied that you were special so the doctor wanted to see you. In fact, to me, you are one of a kind. You are talented in your own way and I hope you can put it to full use one day. You always believed me and thereafter complied with the doctor’s treatment plan. I did not do much. Your parents were really the ones who guided and accompanied you. Before we parted ways, I gave you a biography of Abraham Lincoln. You had said you wanted to be a president and I hoped you could emulate the spirit of Lincoln. We took a photograph together in the counselling room and you went back to class. I saw that you were reluctant to say goodbye. A while later, I was told that you were still lingering outside my office. I came to you and asked if you were alright. You replied shyly, “Thank you, teacher.” Time stood still in that moment. I was touched. Blessings to you, Star Child. Thank you for lighting up my life and allowing me to pass the torch to other parents, showing them how love overcomes obstacles and leads the way. Master Cheng Yen once expressed hope for teachers to educate their students with the love of a parent. I have never been a parent, but I love each and every child the same way my parents love me. I am thankful for the connection with this child. Thank you for your trust in me. May you meet angels who shine upon you as gently as the moonlight; while you continue to glow with their warmth, love and understanding. They are characterized by social communication and interaction difficulties. They also have difficulty expressing feelings and exhibit restricted and repetitive behaviours and interests.
