The world of Tzu Chi January 2021 (Vol.130)
02 2021 • 01 knew that these are essential, and only when everyone is safe will society be safe and peaceful. More good things can happen with more kind-hearted people; and the power of love would be immense. People worldwide are contributing to Tzu Chi’s missions, which benefit humanity unreservedly. They work together with love for the common good. Upholding the spirit of great compassion, Tzu Chi volunteers extend aid to all humanity. At this critical time, we must love and care for one another, riding out the difficult time together. Let us garner everyone’s love and bring peace to the hearts of those who suffer, and do our best to bring more relief supplies to them. Although our relief efforts are restricted by the pandemic prevention regulations, we must still express our sincerity by calling on everyone to do good deeds and sow blessings, thereby amassing more blessings for the world. Tzu Chi’s Mission of Charity began with a kind thought 55 years ago, where 30 people saved NT 50 cents daily as charity funds. Expanding from Taiwan, there are now Tzu Chi volunteers in 63 countries/regions. They mobilize local resources to help disaster victims in neighbouring countries. If it weren’t for the NT 50 cents decades ago, we would not have these humanitarian relief efforts, which have reached more than 110 countries, including long-term and emergency relief. I am very grateful, and feel blessed, to have so many kind-hearted people coming together for these charitable endeavours. During my visit to a Tzu Chi centre in the eastern district of Taipei, I heard everyone said, “Master, I love you!” Before I could reply, they said unanimously, “We will love all that Master loves!” I am deeply grateful that they understood me, and that our common goal is love. We all have love in our hearts; love for people, things and all forms of life. With our pair of hands, we can accomplish many good deeds. The recycling volunteers, for example, use their hands to carry and sort out tonnes of recyclables. When 500 people work together to help others compassionately, it is likened to a Guanyin Bodhisattva with a thousand hands. Through concerted efforts, you have helped me to accomplish what I wished to do. The most valuable asset in this world is our lives. But we must maximize the value of it. I often hear Tzu Chi volunteers vowing to serve until their last breaths. They are, indeed, living out their value in life with great wisdom. While one does not earn any money through serving humanity, one gains spiritual joy and adds value to one’s life. Cultivate diligently on the right direction in life and keep each thought in check, so that we will have no regrets in life. aster’s Teaching * Compiled from a collection of speeches delivered by Master Cheng Yen from November 2 to 10, 2020.
