The world of Tzu Chi January 2021 (Vol.130)

TZU CHI 130 25 Board Member as soon as Tzu Chi kickstarted the fundraising, hoping to inspire others to do likewise. She said, “I told myself, I’m more fortunate than many others. Therefore, I should donate generously to charity and help the people of Malaysia.” Sui San reached out to more in her career network, in the hope that they too have the opportunity to do good and sow their blessings. She earnestly explained the significance of the relief programme, to which her work acquaintances responded positively. Sui San was always happy to receive a donation irrespective of the amount donated. In the end, she successfully raised more than RM900,000. Fulfilling corporate responsibilities After the launch of the relief programme, the Tzu Chi Entrepreneurs’ Group immediately began corporate fundraising. They shared the purpose and significance of the relief programme to entrepreneurs, organizations and associations since July 2020. Tan Sri Goh Tian Chuan, president of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia, agreed with the relief programme. He believed that enterprises should practise social care and fulfil their social responsibilities at this tough time. He said, “The MCO has greatly affected the economy, affecting both businesses and individuals, causing rising unemployment and household debts. Although many sectors have resumed operation, they’re far from recovery. Therefore, we support this very meaningful programme of Tzu Chi. Through this, we can care for and help the poor to tide over the pandemic together.” In addition, the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia also expressed their support for the relief programme. Its president, Tan Sri Datuk Ter Leong Yap said, “If everyone does a little good deed every day, we can pool them together, making it even more meaningful.” Volunteer Chong Ah Hwa, from the Entrepreneurs’ Group fundraising team, admitted that initially, everyone felt pressured in meeting the fundraising goal. However, they did everything possible to convey the significance of the relief programme to all with the utmost sincerity. She said, with concerted efforts of volunteers, the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Furniture Association, Rotary Foundation Malaysia, Malaysia Retail Chain Association, and many other organizations and associations, were willing to give their support. Ah Hwa shared that her helper at home even volunteered to donate RM50 after learning about the relief programme. “As what Tan Sri Datuk Ter Leong Yap said, ‘A little good deed daily by everyone, can generate a great force collectively.’ Master too, wants all of us to actuate kind thoughts and do good daily. The donation amount doesn’t matter, the most important is the good intention.” 1 Years ago, Master Cheng Yen called upon all kind people to contribute towards the Tzu Chi Hospital Building Fund. In response to the Master’s appeal, Tzu Chi volunteers initiated every means to raise funds for this cause. Back then, NT$1 million was a huge amount. As the Master was very grateful to those who had donated over NT$1 million, she appointed them as Tzu Chi Honorary Board Members to show her appreciation and commend their acts of kindness as a role model for everyone to emulate.
