2021 • 01 24 eature Giving back to society After the“Kita1Keluarga”reliefprogrammewas launched, volunteers fromtheTzuChi Entrepreneurs’ Group took the lead in donating money while actively encouraging private enterprises and organizations to donate.When the call of the relief programme rang loud, many people responded. Many, in the spirit of “giving back what we have taken from society”, responded positively, fulfilling their social responsibilities. “C ompared to some industries that have closed down due to the pandemic, we were lucky. Therefore, we must do good and sow blessings when the opportunities come,” said Johor Tzu Chi volunteer, Carol Lim Huey Shyan, in an interview. Carol’s husband, who is also volunteer Chong Sui San’s work acquaintance, runs a machinery company. Carol shared that her husband’s business was also affected during the MCO period. But thanks to timely measures, coupled with the cooperation and efforts from his work partners and employees, the company was able to tide over. Hence, when Sui San mentioned the “Kita1Keluarga” relief programme to Carol’s husband, he donated for four Tzu Chi Honorary Board Members 1 (RM480,000) without hesitation. This contribution could help alleviate the plight of countless families. As Carol often participates in Tzu Chi’s activities, her husband is no stranger to doing good and helping others. According to Carol, “Giving hands help relieve the pain from those who are suffering. We’re fortunate to be able to survive the economic hardship during the pandemic. Since we can afford to donate, it’s a good opportunity to give back to society. I hope we can help those affected during this difficult period.” Sui San is incredibly grateful for her work acquaintances’ contributions. She shared, “Master Cheng Yen taught us that the amount donated is not important, but the thought to do good is. I’m very grateful for my business acquaintances. They didn’t turn away when I proposed they donate a hundred thousand. Instead, they willingly contributed. This has been my most accomplished and happy journey in fundraising...” In addition to actively promoting the relief programme to the community, Sui San, an investment banker, donated for an Honorary By Koh Poo Leng & Yap Chai Hoon Translated by Lee You Zhuan In the spirit of “giving back what we have taken from society”, volunteers from the Tzu Chi Entrepreneurs’ Group actively responded to the fundraising initiative.
