A vegetarian restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, MamaVege, initiated a charitable programme, where the public could pay RM5 for a vegetarian meal to be delivered to the needy. When medical personnel were in urgent need of preventive supplies, many civil organizations contributed. Sin Chew Daily and Sin Chew Foundation jointly initiated the “Fight for Lives and Act to Save” project, where RM2 million worth of medical supplies, namely, medicines, testing kits, disposable protective equipment and other medical necessities were swiftly delivered to support frontliners. Likewise, when the outbreak happened, the Taiwanese government worked closely with local enterprises to establish 60 face mask production lines within three weeks, producing more than ten million pieces of face masks daily, to meet the need of the local medical personnel and the public. Moreover, name- based rationing system was put in place to stop panic buying and price hike. These measures eased the people’s mind. While governments were committed to rescue the economy and contain the spread of the virus, the medical personnel have stood firm in their roles and gave their best to save lives.
