The World Of Tzu Chi(Vol.128)

02 2020 • 11 volunteers to elevate the rack with plastic bags hanging on different levels of clotheslines. To make life easier for the volunteers, Cai Zhi converted it into an electrical system, which can be easily elevated or lowered by pressing a button. Later, Cai Zhi further improved the design to include an electrical rolling rack that could generate dry air to speed up the drying process, and prevent strong wind from blowing off the plastic bags. Cai Zhi often walks around the recycling centre to observe and think how to make better use of its limited space to function more efficiently than most production factories. He does it all, not for money, but to give new life to recycling materials that may otherwise be disposed as rubbish and pollute the environment. In every recycling centre, many volunteers put in their time, effort and skills to transform recyclables into exquisite items that are suitable for reuse at the centre. These volunteers have good skills, and they are truly sincere and compassionate about preserving and extending the life of any objects that come their way. They give new life to old things. They have made use of their life beautifully, that is “The most beautiful life”. They work with sincerity for the goodness of human kind. In doing so, they are actually making the best use of their abilities, and adding values to their life. They are living bodhisattvas. When everyone works together in unison to support one another for a common goal, we return to our purest inner self. There is no intention of personal gains. Everyone gives selflessly. With every effort put in by everyone that adds up to become a significant force, that is truly a joint effort of compassionate act with utmost truthfulness and sincerity. I hope that everyone will transform their knowledge into wisdom. Instead of living a leisure life of personal gratification and enjoyment, one shall have the wisdom to pursue a meaningful life in preservation and education for a better tomorrow. Currently, the Earth is sick. There is frequent news of calamities happening around the world. It is everyone’s duty to protect the Earth. Let us repent sincerely and pledge to reduce our desires for material gains, to be thrifty in consuming goods and help preserve our natural resources. Go for meat-free diet to free ourselves from creating negative karma in satisfying our palate. Everyone shall live by this mantra of “being grateful, be respectful of others, be loving”, become a vegetarian and protect the environment, in order to make this society a better and healthier place for all. The Earth that we all live on is surrounded by crises in many places; the forest fires in the US, and the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. There are still many places in the world that Tzu Chi has neither the right opportunity, nor resources to render help. Where accessibility is unavailable to Tzu Chi, we shall pray for the well-being of these countries and its people. We shall also seize the opportunity to do good and pledge to become one who can be influential to human kind. Please be mindful always! aster’s Teaching * Compiled from a collection of speeches delivered by Master Cheng Yen from September 1 to 15, 2020.
