05 TZU CHI 127 Tzu Chi volunteers who settled down in foreign lands and started charity missions are in a way, nurturing a tree, patiently waiting for it to blossom, bear fruits, and develop from one to a bountiful. It is hoped that this barren land will form an oasis, and the trees of kindness will grow and flourish. This is our hope – to transform Africa. It is an effort to inspire everyone to extend kindness and spread love, thereby generating more power of compassion. – Master Cheng Yen The Africans believe that dancing and singing can expel bad luck and bring blessings. Hence, the volunteers will always lead the villagers to dance and sing together prior to the start of a distribution event.
