2020 • 10 28 eature country.” Before deciding to go out with Dino, Denise made a trip to Mozambique for a month in order to gain a first-hand knowledge of the place. She fell in love with it after witnessing for herself the beauty of local customs. But, as it turned out later, after she had moved in and settled down, her love for Africa slowly faded away. “What you all have are watches, but what they have is time.” This was Denise’s observation of the locals. Denise, who is astute, efficient and methodical in her work, was totally not prepared to accept the local’s attitudes of not keeping to promises, tardiness, going back on their words, and not following rules. She said that her worst record was having changed three domestic helpers in a year. Vowed to help build a betterAfrica In the Chinese New Year of 2012, Denise visited the Kaohsiung Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall at the introduction of Tzu Chi volunteer, Yang Ming-qin, in Taiwan. She was deeply moved by Tzu Chi’s contribution to the world. Nevertheless, she was still very much a career-oriented person at the time and with young children in the family, Denise and her husband felt that Tzu Chi work could come later and, probably, after they had succeeded in their careers or when they have retired. It was not until later in the same year that Denise’s A family vacation is precious to Denise Tsai’s family, for she hardly takes any break from charitable work.
