2020 • 10 18 eature According to UNICEF, only half of Mozambicans have access to improved water supply. Hence, the role of fetching water falls on the women and children. Ironically, Mozambique faces both water shortage and frequent flooding. Upon discovering that a destitute elderly woman had been using a foul-smelling mattress that was soaked in floodwaters, volunteers immediately brought her a foldable bed. Moreover, the slum with poor hygiene is often a mosquito breeding ground post-flood.
