Together, they protect the environment with their hands and safeguard the Earth. Four “black pearl” commissioners were nurtured and several Indian volunteers enlisted in the past seven years. Like a lighthouse, Tzu Chi volunteers exercised their ability to shine in dark corners. The recycling point at PPR Padang Jawa flats was established on July 21, 2013. Besides serving as an avenue for recruiting volunteers, it is also a place to educate residents on the importance of environmental protection. Despite having only few participants, the volunteers continued with commitment and remained in high spirit to help the needy and protect the Earth. The most unique feature of the recycling point is that it is entirely run by Indian volunteers. Although it stopped operating during the MCO, the volunteers continued to collect and store the recyclables rather than seeing them go to waste. Three different races live together in harmony in the area. Seizing the opportunity to promote awareness in protecting the environment, volunteers in the area guided their Malay neighbours about the importance of recycling. In spite of the limited living space, the volunteers would always welcome recyclables with open arms even if it meant they have to pile them up. Gradually, the amount of recyclable resources increased significantly.
