The world of Tzu Chi September 2020 (Vol.126)
2020 • 09 18 eature Acknowledging recycling volunteers Making to the international stage Tzu Chi has been promoting recycling in Kuala Lumpur for a quarter of a century, with contributions from many volunteers, including the elderly. To acknowledge and honour their selfless dedications, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor presented to them grey volunteer shirts, organized new volunteer training sessions and held name-card presentation ceremonies for them. Between 2016 and 2019, a total of 383 volunteers had received such recognition. As an NGO, Tzu Chi holds a special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and had been attending the annual UN Climate Change Conference from 2014 to 2019. From the promotion of vegetarianism to the research and development of eco-friendly products by Da Ai Technology, the Master has been reminding us not to fail in doing good nor commit evil deeds, no matter how minor they might be. The Master believes that as long as everyone changes their way of thinking and practise recycling, it is possible to create a clean environment. Recycling, becoming a vegetarian and saving Earth’s resources are the three main elements embraced by Tzu Chi volunteers in their journey to protect the environment. Besides, Tzu Chi also joins forces with civil organizations, corporates and other entities to raise environmental awareness to the public while also highlighting the urgency of curbing global warming.
