The world of Tzu Chi August 2020 (Vol.125)
TZU CHI 125 43 Lee Leong Meng (2nd from right) and Biau Tua (2nd from left) committed themselves to recycling work at the Taman Asean Recycling Centre at the invitation of volunteer Lai Quee Lan (far left) for a meaningful cause. [Photograph by Yong Siew Lee] “My son’s condition has improved tremendously. The only problem that he has now is not being able to place his left foot flat on the ground. I’m so thankful! All these achievements are the results of his own efforts. As a mother, I have done enough. I now feel too tired to be of any help.” Biau Tua’s only wish is for her son to be completely independent in taking care of himself and making an honest living for himself. It was Tzu Chi’s timely help and care that had helped them through all the difficult times. Being grateful and wanting to help others in need, she and her son adopted a bamboo bank and deposit some spare change into it daily to be donated to Tzu Chi. Today, with their worries and sorrows behind them, both Biau Tua and Leong Meng have learned to thank and respect each other. They also smile more often. Their experiences have drawn them closer together. Whenever Biau Tua met the volunteers, she would either hug them or hold their hands and tell them about the recent happenings in their life, while Leong Meng would happily update everyone on the outcomes of his physiotherapy sessions. He harbours great hope for the future and plans to join the volunteers in doing good in the future when he is able to lead an independent life. “My family has been saved twice by Tzu Chi and the loving kindness of its volunteers! We wouldn’t have come this far without them,” Biau Tua said, with tears welling up in her eyes and a bright smile on her face.
