2020 • 06 40 ocal News Considering the high demand for face masks, hand sanitizer and other protective equipment among frontline police officers, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor volunteers contacted numerous police stations within the community to enquire about the amount of protective equipment needed and distributed face masks, hand sanitizer, gloves and fruits to more than 90 police stations across the region. The volunteers also supplied dates, a Ramadan staple, to the police officers. Tuan Sarjan Major Arifin Dollah, who is stationed at the police station in the neighbourhood of Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, commented, “On behalf of the Royal Malaysia Police Force, I express our gratitude to Tzu Chi for boosting our morale and giving us the strength to continue serving the people to the best of our ability.” KL & Selangor 2020.04.21–29 Reported by Sia Ah Tong Photograph by Chan Tuck Meng For many years, Tzu Chi Kluang volunteers have been offering counselling services twice monthly to the Chinese male inmates in two local prisons. Recently, Ibrahim bin Jaafar, the head officer of Pusat Pemulihan Pemasyarakatan Kem Mahkota Kluang, sought assistance from Tzu Chi to alleviate the shortage of face masks and hand sanitizer in the rehabilitation centre and received 1,000 face masks. The volunteers also responded to requests for supplies of face masks from Pusat Pemulihan Akhlak Simpang Renggam and the Kluang Prison. Furthermore, the volunteers extended their concern to the police officers who have been working tirelessly around the clock by delivering face masks to the men in blue on duty at the Kluang Police Station and Kem Mahkota Kluang.
