[Photograph by Liew Wan Jin] (Middle) The PPR Seri Aman flats in Kuala Lumpur are populated by many senior citizens, disabled persons, patients of chronic illnesses and single mothers. Tzu Chi KL & Selangor received a report on the plight of the disadvantaged residents and assessed the living conditions of underprivileged households to gauge their eligibility for assistance. Each of the 36 eligible families received convenience store vouchers ranging from RM150 to RM300, enabling them to purchase a month’s worth of provisions. The volunteers and the sponsoring convenience store reached a consensus that the beneficiaries are only allowed to use the vouchers for essential supplies. The purchase of cigarettes and liquor is prohibited. [Photograph by Chia Aai Hoon] (Bottom) Tzu Chi volunteers presented about 1,900 care packages to the staff and patients of Sungai Buloh Hospital. Each package contains a card of well wishes inscribed with a Jing Si aphorism, a message on vegetarianism, apples, oranges and biscuits to supply the recipients with nutrients and energy to power through the day.
