A simple display of concern or a brief greeting is all it takes to warm their hearts. Dr. Chee opined that Malaysia has an adequate epidemic prevention mechanism in place, but public cooperation remains crucial. “For instance, one returns from an epidemic-hit area and feels unwell but hesitates to report the symptoms he or she is experiencing, dreading the prospect of his or her routine being disrupted when subjected to quarantine. This potentially causes greater harm to society at large.” In a time of widespread malaise, self- awareness is imperative. Dr. Chee advised those who have fallen ill to stay home and refrain from heading to public places unless absolutely necessary, in which case one should wear a face mask, practise frequent hand washing and avoid close contact with others in order to shield oneself and those around us from the virus.
