TZU CHI 119 39 Local News Tzu Chi Muar embarked on its maiden collaboration with Econsave Cash & Carry to present shopping vouchers to care recipients from the local Chinese community, enabling them to stock up on festive goods for the Chinese New Year season. A team of Tzu Chi volunteers offered rides to 26 care recipients, who arrived at the supermarket with smiles on their faces and shopping vouchers and shopping lists in hand. The supermarket staff assisted the care recipients in hunting for the best bargains as the latter filled their trolleys with groceries and daily necessities. Meanwhile, the volunteers stationed themselves at a booth in the supermarket and conducted various activities to raise awareness on environmental conservation and introduce other shoppers to Tzu Chi’s philosophy and values, including a presentation on Tzu Chi’s origins in the Bamboo Bank Era and spring couplet giveaways. The year-end distribution event held at the Tzu Chi Bakri Activity Centre was attended by a total of 198 care recipients of various ethnicities and their families. Mirthful laughter rang across the venue as the volunteers made a jubilant entrance, dressed in mouse costumes while hoisting a sedan chair assembled from recyclables. In addition, the volunteers entertained the care recipients with a host of festive performances and prepared a sumptuous buffet for the guests as a caring gesture of warm hospitality.
