The world of Tzu Chi January 2020 (Vol.118)

TZU CHI 118 15 In 2017, Kong Ho Leh (middle) travelled to China for her internship at the Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine with well wishes from her parents and the volunteers. [Photograph by Tan Kim Hion] has been generous in extending help. I’m deeply grateful,” remarked Ho Leh, who counts herself fortunate for all the support and encouragement received throughout her schooling years, particularly the volunteers’ care that saw her through hard times. The independent Ho Leh is now a full- fledged TCM physician capable of providing for herself and her parents. Although she no longer needs to depend on others for help, she remains appreciative of the volunteers’ care and concern for herself and her family in the past, inspiring her to pay the kindness forward. She acknowledged the value of tertiary education in expanding her worldview and liberating her from the shackles of poverty, reflecting, “Education is a necessity, however poor or deprived one is. The purpose of education is not only to earn a degree, but to broaden one’s horizons and open one’s mind to embrace universal perspectives. Never let yourself be limited by your circumstances.” Opening Doors to a Brighter Future
