The World Of Tzu Chi December 2019 (Vol.117)

02 2019 • 12 of Charity, Medicine, Education, Humanistic Culture, Bone Marrow Donation, International Relief, Environmental Protection and Community Volunteerism. If we do not walk this expedient path of serving humanity first, we will not be able to connect to the Bodhisattva Path. Hopefully everyone can not only treasure the special karmic affinity with Tzu Chi, but also strive to cultivate and walk the path diligently. After volunteer training and root- searching, comes the Commissioning Ceremony. You must understand your mission in this life and fortify your aspiration to walk the Bodhisattva Path so that you will not retreat at the critical moment, just like what was explained in the Buddhist parable. I personally conduct the certification for each and every Tzu Cheng Faith Corps member and Tzu Chi Commissioner, all of whom I cherish dearly, and entrust to them the mission of serving humanity, while they take on the responsibility and lead more people onto the Bodhisattva Path. Thus, I strive very hard in order to ensure that I can walk steadily and be there to conduct the Commissioning Ceremony. Although I do not have much energy to speak now, there are so many things about Tzu Chi and the volunteers that I would like to talk about, and I could never finish talking about them. I am always grateful for everyone’s efforts in spreading Tzu Chi’s spirit, which helped to alleviate the pain and suffering of many and further inspire them to walk the Bodhisattva Path. Please keep your initial aspiration close at heart and never forget those who led you to Tzu Chi. Appreciate those who work together with us to pave the Tzu Chi Path and treat one another with gratitude and respect so that this energy of love can be passed on from generation to generation. Climate change is worrying, but more so the “typhoon” that strikes our hearts and minds. It could create havoc beyond reason. In mid-October, Typhoon Hagibis hit Japan, causing floods and serious damage. At the same time, the US and Australia suffered devastating forest fires. No matter how advanced our technology is, we are powerless in the face of natural disasters. Climate change is worrying, but more so the “typhoon” that strikes our hearts and minds. A trivial matter could lead to havoc if our minds deviate from the right path or if we fail to control our emotions. Besides being thankful that we are spared from disasters, we must also be vigilant. We are living in a world full of latent crises, hence it would not do to lose ourselves in insatiable desires. It is worrying that human beings bring impurities wherever they go. We must strive to purify human minds to guide everyone towards the right path in life. Additionally, we must also evoke the kindness in everyone so that we can keep disasters at bay. We must lead by example ourselves and create a positive influence on our family and by extension, society. May everyone have peace of mind and do good deeds to benefit humanity each and every day! aster’s Teaching * Compiled from a collection of speeches delivered by Master Cheng Yen from September 30 to October 16, 2019.
