TZU CHI 117 33 Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tzu Chi Indonesia and local religious organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) on June 4, 2018, both parties, along with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and a group of Indonesian entrepreneurs, launched a plan to establish the Nahdlatul Ulama University of Indonesia on October 9. The university was completed a year later and was officiated with an opening ceremony on October 22, 2019. During the ceremony, NU vice chairman and president of the university, Prof. Mochamad Maksum, thanked Tzu Chi in his speech for making this interfaith collaboration possible and expressed his hope for both organizations to work together in spreading love to the needy. Indonesia 2019.10.22 An Interfaith Venture in Higher Education The contributions of Tzu Chi Indonesia and a group of Indonesian entrepreneurs to the construction of the Great Love Village in Palu City, Sulawesi were acknowledged by the Indonesian government. Vice President Jusuf Kalla and President Joko Widodo visited the construction site of the village on October 7 and October 29 respectively, with the latter giving his nod of approval to the quality workmanship. The work- in-progress, built on 45 hectares of land comprising 1,500 residential units, is expected to be completed by the year 2020. Prospective residents of the village, who are currently housed in prefabricated houses, have undergone the necessary verification procedures in anticipation of their relocation to the Great Love Village.
